U17 Open Tournament
hm
Wed 14 Oct 2009
A strong entry of juniors from across the south of England enjoyed a very good tournament at the Westgate Badminton Centre on 10 October. The standard of play was a delight and a record number of the matches went to three sets.
A name to watch for the future - 13 year-old Anna Collis from Hertfordshire. She won the girls' singles in a close match with another 13 year-old, Lynlette Aung from Dorset. Partnered by yet another 13 year-old Lydia Powell from Sussex she went on to win the girls' doubles.
The boys' events were won by 16 year-old Adam Dochniak from Dorset, and Howard Stobo and Steve George, both 15 years old, from Hertfordshire.
Hampshire had eight boys and two girls playing in the event, but only Melissa Stride won through to the play-off stages. She was eliminated by the losing finalist Lynnlette.
