The Westgate Badminton Centre

We have some great news and developments at the Centre starting in September to help develop badminton in Hampshire further. You may be aware that Westgate Badminton Club have consistently helped and nurtured a wide range of abilities from beginner level, from the age of 8 through to a number of juniors who have achieved county and International honours. We have done this by having one of the best facilities and coaching set ups in the country. This has enabled us to run, for the last 5 years, the Westgate Girls Academy, a residential/school/training opportunity which has helped to develop a number of county girls along with one who has reached England number 1 Under 19 and England no. 4 senior ranked player at only 17.

Building on the strengths of this group of players and with our future plans we have just been awarded Performance Centre Status by Badminton England which will support us in the next 3 years to help more young people achieve their maximum potential in badminton. We have also attracted the number 1 name in badminton companies ‘Yonex’ to sponsor us throughout the next three years. In order to develop more effectively we have had to expand and make changes to our operation and to partner with other schools/ clubs and sports facilities.

We will now be operating a 3 tier Performance Pathway to support players who wish to achieve high level standards during the week along with our beginners and more ‘social’ groups predominantly at the weekend.
